Beauty means different things to different people. To some it is the aesthetically pleasing form of a woman's face. To others, it is the sense of comfort one feels in the presence of a beautiful woman. Some people hold the view that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder--- meaning that what maybe beautiful to some may not be beautiful to others.
The dictionary defines beauty as “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” It is based on physical attributes. However, there is a "higher" beauty than this mere physical type of beauty. This is called inner beauty. The outer beauty can be enhanced with the use of make-up and modern technological advances of plastic surgery. The inner beauty can only be nourished by a good, loving heart. And this is the beauty that must be sought and cultivated in our lives.

So how does one cultivate inner beauty? Feliz Fojas, author of " Radiate Your Inner Beauty" and Janet Behmer and Shirley Pierce, authors of " 6 Ways to Boost Your Self-Esteem: An Inner Beauty Workout For Women" offer the following ways to radiate a good aura of inner beauty.

1.) BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

What we think greatly influences our way of life. Understand that you are perfect even before you put on a dress. As long as you are in perfect health, you are beautiful regardless of your shape, color, or size.

2.) REMOVE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS FROM YOUR THOUGHTS

Negative emotions like fear and anger, and negative thoughts like wanting to deceive or do harm are dynamos of bad vibrations. Harboring them will repel those around you, who will find you ugly and repulsive no matter how physically attractive you are. These negative tendencies also drain your youth-preserving vitality and life force, called chi in Chinese or prana in Sanskrit, causing you to age long before your time. And these thoughts prevent you from radiating inner beauty.

3.) DEVELOP YOUR CONVERSATIONAL SKILLS

Make it a habit to read the newspapers. Be aware of the current trends. Watch informative shows or movies where you can learn and master the art of good conversation so that you will become a woman who has diverse and stimulating topics to talk about.

4.) CELEBRATE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN LIFE

Have your own private celebration of who you are. Your accomplishments, your dreams, and your hard work are nothing to sneeze at. Admire the parts of your body you like with the same energy that you "dis" the parts you don't like. And for the parts you don't like just remember where they came from -- your female ancestors. And imagine what they did with those features -- survived holocausts, worked on assembly lines, cleaned other women's houses -- to make you who you are. So, while you're celebrating yourself, celebrate your grandmother a little, too. But here's a bit of caution. Don't take too much pride in your achievements - a person who is very proud of his accomplishments is known to be more stressed. Remember, achievements sometimes hinder us from growing and learning.

5.) TAP INTO THE POWER OF VISUALIZATION

Sit on a chair or on the floor, cross-legged or in lotus position, with your eyes closed and your spine erect but relaxed. Put your palms up on your lap with the tips of the forefinger and the thumb of each hand touching each other and forming a ring, and with the tip of your tongue lightly touching the roof of your mouth to keep the energy of your body in a closed circuit. On the first inhalation, visualize a white, luminous shaft of light coming down from heaven, entering through the top of your head, and nestling in the center of your chest. On the second inhalation, visualize another white shaft of light coming up from the center of the earth and meeting the light of heaven in your chest, transforming it into a white circle of light one inch in diameter. You now have a balanced polarity of yin (female) and yang (male) energies. Inhale and exhale fully seven more times

6.) TREAT YOURSELF

If it feels good, do it. Spoil yourself with any positive experience you can think of. Get a massage. Hit your favorite spa. Go for a walk. Go to the gym. Go to the video store and max out on films featuring your favorite movie star. Use your imagination. Learn to play an instrument. Just never forget these words, "This is for me."

7.) PRAY

Kneeling down or seated, with your eyes closed and your hands clasped in a gesture of silent prayer in the center of your chest, inhale and exhale deeply seven times, and silently, fervently pray, "Bless me with inner beauty and divine love." Say this three times and end with "Amen," or "So be it."
